A North Tonawanda teenager went to jail Tuesday for placing what a prosecutor called “spy cameras” in bathrooms in a school and a home.
Derek S. Fitzgerald, 18, of Mead Street, was sentenced to six months in the Niagara County Jail to begin a five-year probation term for second-degree unlawful surveillance.
He was denied youth offender status by County Judge Sara Sheldon.
Assistant District Attorney Cheryl L. Grundy said Fitzgerald obtained images of a girl in a restroom at the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services facility on Saunders Settlement Road in Cambria on Sept. 25, 2018.
He also obtained images of a boy and a girl in a residential bathroom in the fall of 2018, Grundy said.
